Cliffhanger

CLIFFHANGER
i wrote 36 chapters
put ‘em all in a book
you can find it down at the bookstore
if you go take a look
at the end of every chapter
something terrible’s about to take place
someone’s gonna have a knife to their throat
or a gun in their face
them’s what you call cliffhangers
them’s what you call cliffhangers
make you wannato keep turning the pages, my friend
right up to the bitter end
like say the end of chapter three
loosely based on something that happened to me
the hero of our little tale
is about to send some email
he'd spent hours composing his message
he’d expressed himself so very well
but he hadn’t made a backup copy
he was soon to enter a living hell
cause his computer alla sudden went black
could he ever get his message back?
that’s what you call a cliffhanger
that’s what you call a cliffhanger
make you wanna keep turning the pages, my friend
right up to the bitter end
like say the end of chapter eight
all problems resolved and things were going great
but then just at the chapter’s conclusion
there came a very bad confusion
some mobbed up loan shark suddenly appeared
and threw the situation outta whack
he’d been in the shadows up till now
but now he said he wants his money back
and the hero of our little story
once again, based loosely on me
had 26 dollars in his bank account
he was as broke as broke can be
will he manage to scrape up the money he owes?
well as you’d imagine, and as you’d suppose
that’s what you call a cliffhanger
that’s what you call a cliffhanger
make you wanna keep turning the pages, my friend
right up to the bitter end
now i won’t give away any more of the story
cause i want you to BUY the book, i’m no fool
but by now you could guess it’s kinda autobiographical
hey, it’s a literary jewel
and as mentioned every chapter leaves you hanging
you’ll keep turning the pages no doubt
and then the very last chapter leaves you hanging as well
you’ll buy my next book when it comes out
that’s what you call a cliffhanger
that’s what you call a cliffhanger
and you’ll keep buying up all my books my friend
right up to the bitter end
right up to the bitter end
right up to the bitter end

There's a Flaw Somewhere
02:53

THERE'S A FLAW SOMEWHERE
there’s a flaw somewhere
somewhere in my theory
and so my grand plan is falling apart
like a house of cards
i was certain, so very certain that i
had it all worked out
now it’s just a broken bottle in the alley
worthless scattered shards
there’s a flaw somewhere
there’s a flaw somewhere
trying to zero in on the nature
the nature of my mistake
must be somewhere deep in the calculations
calculations I’ll have to remake
but now it’s a question of time, you see
i might not have enough left
i’d have to steal the time from somewhere else
and I’ve lost my taste for theft
there’s a flaw somewhere
there’s a flaw somewhere
when I first set out to achieve some dreams
i guess i really didn’t have a clue
but as I stumbled along i was getting at least
a little handle on what I should do
and as the years rolled by i kept plugging along
bound and determined to find
some kinda fulfillment, some inner peace
a goal in the back of my mind
but there’s a flaw somewhere
there’s a flaw somewhere
and now i’m thinking the basic flaw is within
can’t-blame no one else, I suppose
it was there in the very foundation
on which this crumbling edifice rose
now it may or may not be a fatal flaw
anyway that’s beside the point
i’m heading over to a bar on the edge of town
stop in if you’re near the joint
there’s a flaw somewhere
there’s a flaw somewhere
tonight i’ll be drinking till i just don’t care
that there’s a flaw somewhere

Friendly Game of Bridge

FRIENDLY GAME OF BRIDGE
i was playing some bridge last Friday night
a friendly game with the neighbors
i was doing alright
i’d had a few good hands, i was winning you see
then my friends started getting a little hostile with me
they said “you brought the deck, Samm
these cards are marked”
one of ‘em ran outside
where my Toyota was parked
it was my neighbor Chuck, a really nice guy
ah but now he had a real wild look in his eye
he pulled out a knife, started slashing my tires
reached under the dashboard, pulling out wires
i said “Chuck, what the fuck? i mean,
what the fuck, Chuck?”
he said “Samm it looks like you’re flat out of luck
you ain’t going nowhere in this car, you cheater”
then up from behind come my good friend Peter
he clipped me on the shoulder with a frying pan
then his wife pulled a gun, nice gal, name of Ann
she fired a single round, took out my left middle toe
i thought “i still got nine, i’ll be alright, you know”
but then Ann’s friend Jane, i don’t know her that well
ran up to me screaming “i’ll send you to hell”
she was waving a big long Samurai sword
i thought “that’s the kinda wound that I cannot afford”
so i took off running down the tree lined street
i had nine toes left, i could still use my feet
but now the whole gang was chasing me closing in quick
one had a crow bar, another an ice pick
i tripped and fell, they surrounded me fast
and i thought “this moment might be my last”
but then a voice down the block shouted
“listen up now, if our friend Samm cheated
well i don’t know how
cause those cards aren’t marked they’re totally clean”
they said “what? he didn’t cheat? is that what you mean?”
he said “that’s right, y’all, you got to spare him his life
and that goes double for Peter’s wife”
and so she holstered her gun and said
“sorry ‘bout the toe,
but i’ll bring you a loaf of my homemade sourdough”
and Peter said “sorry ‘bout the shoulder, man,
as a gesture of good will, here, take the frying pan”
and Chuck said “sorry ‘bout the tires old friend
i hope our friendship will never end”
and so we all headed back to the house where we were playing
they were all apologetic, nice things they were saying
they gave me the last beer they had in the fridge
and said “Samm, next week please join us for bridge”
